The After Party & Closing Reflection

And just when you thought the day had already given everything it had, the after party kicked in. By then, the performances were over, the awards had been handed out, people had eaten, taken their pictures and made their rounds. But nobody was rushing to leave. If anything, the room felt even more alive.

The DJ was not playing around either. It was one banger after another. At that point, the dance floor became the main attraction. People were line dancing, two-stepping, grabbing somebody nearby and jumping right into the next song. Some people knew every move. Some were just following along. Either way, everybody was having fun.

And yes, I got a dance in too with my good friend. When Dee Nyce and Ray Lavender’s “Slide With Me” came on, that smooth groove pulled us right in. After that dance, it literally made my whole night. 😂 I could have stayed on that dance floor listening to that one over and over.

And that is what stood out most. Nobody looked like they were trying too hard. People were laughing, dancing, singing, moving from inside the tent to outside and back again. The energy felt loose, comfortable and familiar.

The tent looked completely different at night too. The string lights overhead gave everything this warm glow, while the colored lighting shifted the room from orange and red tones into blue and purple. The same tables, flowers and gold chairs that looked bright and summery earlier in the day suddenly had a whole different mood.

Serendipity really did have another life after dark.

Inside, the dance floor stayed packed. People were standing between tables, moving to the music and catching whatever space they could find. The line between “dance floor” and “everywhere else” started disappearing.

If there was room, somebody was dancing there. 😂

Outside was just as social. People gathered around the high-top tables, sat along the patio, caught up with friends and stepped outside for a little air before making their way right back into the tent.

And thankfully, the drizzle had finally stopped. The sky was still cloudy and the humidity had absolutely not clocked out, but by that point nobody really cared. The weather had already lost the battle.

The party won.

Looking at the tent from outside at night, glowing from the warm lights inside, you could still see people moving around, talking, dancing and enjoying themselves. It had that feeling of a party that had found its second wind.

And somehow, that felt like the perfect way for Serendipity à la Mode 2026 to end.

When I think about the whole day now, it is not one single thing that stands out. It is the combination of everything. The colorful décor under a gray sky. The champagne waiting at the entrance. The red carpet and those movie-style billboards making us feel like we were walking into somebody’s award show. The fashion. The flowers. The food. The people.

Then there was the surprise of hearing those first vocals and watching everybody rush toward the stage. Shai bringing the harmonies. Eric Benét hitting those notes. The local artists representing the community. The awards. Best Dressed. And then, hours later, everybody still dancing like the night had just started.

That is what made the day feel complete.

Serendipity à la Mode has a way of shifting throughout the day without losing its identity. It can feel elegant when you first walk in, social while everybody is making their rounds, intimate when the R&B starts, celebratory during the awards and completely turnt once the after party gets going.

Different moods. Same Serendipity.

And maybe that is what I understand more clearly now after experiencing it again. Tradition is not created because somebody decides to call something a tradition. It happens because people keep coming back.

They remember how it felt. They recognize the faces. They know to come dressed. They know there will be music. They know they are probably going to run into somebody they have not seen in a while.

And every year, something new gets added to the memory.

2026 definitely added its own chapter. It was cloudy. It was humid. It drizzled. And somehow none of that is what I will remember first.

I will remember the color. I will remember the music. I will remember looking around and seeing people genuinely enjoying themselves. I will remember the crowd singing. I will remember the dance floor. I will remember the lights glowing inside that tent once night fell.

Most of all, I will remember the mood.

Serendipity à la Mode did what it was supposed to do. It brought people together. It gave us something to dress up for, something to dance to, something to talk about and another summer memory to carry with us.

So now there is really only one question left.

What are y’all doing next year? 😂
